MY SITE IS GREAT... BUT WHERE'S MY TRAFFIC
Your website is up and running. It looks great. The layout is beautiful. Your peers are in awe and your competitors are nervous. The content is perfect, so why so little traffic?
Everyone wants free traffic, but it's a full time job to try to keep on top of the search engines changing rules. Instead, build a good content-rich site and do the things suggested below and you’ll get the traffic you want and increase your search engine page ranking.
Write About It Distribute articles of value to your target market. Distribute your articles through article directories, e-zines, and blogs.
Write More About It - Submit press releases frequently with news of interest to the media and your target market.
Write Even More With A Blog Blogs must have frequently updated content. Base yours on information helpful to your customers, not sales pitches.
One-Way Links - You can buy links from other sites and from text link brokers. Make sure you get links from pages with a good Google page rank.
Testify On Other Sites Submit your testimonials to other sites and let them publish it on their web site as long as they link back to you.
E-Newsletters With all the pages of articles you will have from the above suggestions, why not make an e-newsletter to distribute to your mailing list and to interested visitors to your site
E-Mail Letters SPAM is not defined as an email from you to a person in your email list. Send your customers and friends monthly emails reminding them of what you do, any special events or sales you might have.
Pay For It - Get traffic in no time with Pay Per Click services. Google and Overture are the primary ones. Key to make this work: know your visitor value, bid on several keywords/phrases that are not too competitive, and track the results.
Where’s Your Address? How can visitors be expected to visit your website if you they don’t know it is there. Put your web address on EVERYTHING including business cards, letterhead, envelopes, note cards, voicemail… EVERYTHING.
Yes, internet traffic is good and sometimes can seem overwhelming or too expensive to generate. But there are many things you can do that cost little to nothing. Simply pick one item above at a time and start working with that, you will see the results.

Keywords - Why Do I Need Them
Keywords are a list of words that are included in the code of your website, people type these word into the search engine to find your site. These words are highly relevant to the content of your web pages. See Ask O
Knowing which keywords to use and how to use them in your website are critical steps to getting your website found by visitors using search engines. If your keywords and the content of your site do not contain related keywords, your potential customers may not find your website but will find your competitions when they do online searches.
So what words to use? Well that’s the million-dollar question. It can be a bit confusing but basically you need to choose words that are popular and relevant to your site. The ideal terms in a site should be terms that a potential customer would use when searching for your type of website. In order to achieve success your website should have terms and phrases that are descriptive, related to your content, and which receive a significant amount of searches. In addition and the biggest challenge is that you want to find terms and phrases where there is little competition, so you quickly achieve high ranking in the important search engines.
Markets saturated with other sites competing for search terms make it difficult to find quality keywords. Sometimes it is better to optimize for a less popular term, one that is more targeted at your visitor, because it is more likely to have a higher conversion rate than a less specific popular term.
The first step to determining keywords is brainstorming a list of logical terms and phrases that relate to your type of business or service. The idea is to get a group of people to give their choices for your type of website so that you get a good overall public representation. There are a number of free and low-cost tools available online and for download that will allow you to expand and research terms that have been brainstormed. The results typically vary with the tools but overall the tools will assist you in determining where to focus your keyword efforts.
Another trick is to go to your competitor’s websites who already have good search engine ranking and see what type of wording they are using in their copy on their website.
Go to your favorite search engine and find businesses like yours that have top ranking. Make sure and go to a few of the major search engines including Yahoo, Google, AOL andMsn.
Pick the top three companies from each and go through the body copy of their website and make a list of the words they used in their site.
Take this list of words and phrases and compare and contrast and create your master list of keywords and phrases.
Now review the body copy and make sure that it has all of the keywords you chose. Repetition of keywords is a good thing also.
Then contact your webmaster to make sure that your html coding of your keywords is updated with your new selection of words and phrases.
So how do you know if they are working? Which words might need to be changed?
That is where your web stat software comes in. Most web companies offer some sort of traffic monitoring software that comes with your hosting package. In this software you want to find the section that has top referring keywords or top referring search engines with the keywords used.
As you monitor this over a few months, make notes as to which words get the most use and which don’t. Then you simply go back to your list make adjustments and substitutions and modify your words.
Does it take time? Yes. Is it important? That answer depends on how much traffic you want your site to get from the search engines.
There are several online services available that will help you in this process. Some of the more popular ones are:
- KeywordTumbler - KeywordTumbler takes existing keyword phrases and generates multiple variations, reordering the words. This allows you to build a large keyword list in seconds. http://www.keywordtumbler.com
- TheDowser - Overture Keyword Tool, Google Keyword Sandbox, Keyword Harvester, Google AdWords report analyzer, Google AdWords optimization tool, log file analyzer, conversion tracking and optimization tool. http://www.thedowser.com
- WordTracker - Wordtracker helps you choose the right internet marketing keywords that will help your search engine placement and ranking. Use Wordtracker for keyword research. Web marketing is all about search engine ranking, and that starts with the proper Internet marketing keywords. Get a free keyword report and web site promotion information! http://www.wordtracker.com
- Keyword Suggestion Tools - A handy little tool will show you the results of your query from both Wordtracker and Overture for determining which phrases are searched most often. Enter a search phrase below to see how often it's searched for, as well as get suggestions for alternate (but similar) keywords. http://www.digitalpoint.com/tools/suggestion/
- Keyword Ranking Tool - This utility can be used to check search engines for keyword ranking and track search engine ranking for your various keywords over time, which, as you probably know, is critical when doing search engine optimization. http://www.digitalpoint.com/tools/keywords/
- Overture Keyword Tool - After entering a keyword or phrase, Overture provides a list of related phrases that have been searched on. The tool provides a count that indicates the number of times the phrase has been searched on. http://inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion/
- Topword Tool - Topword Tool is a free online tool that analyzes a complete web page and counts keyword occurrences, as well as keyword phrases (number in brackets), equal to or above that set in the Minimum Occurrences setting. It supplies a list of keywords and keyword phrases, which are most likely to achieve the highest rankings on a major search engine. The tool will also analyze your meta description/keyword and title tags and then, through color coding, inform you of words/phrases which should be included. The main use for this tool is checking your optimization and tweaking existing web sites to rank well.
http://www.abakus-internet-marketing.de/tools/topword.html
- Google Suggestion - The Google Suggestion is a new online tool for webmasters. As you type into the search box, Google Suggest guesses what you're typing and offers suggestions in real time. This is similar to Google's "Did you mean?" feature that offers alternative spellings for your query after you search, except that it works in real time. For example, if you type "bass", Google Suggest might offer a list of refinements that include "bass fishing" or "bass guitar". Similarly, if you type in only part of a word, like "progr," Google Suggest might offer you refinements like "programming", "programming languages", "progesterone", or "progressive". You can choose one by scrolling up or down the list with the arrow keys or mouse. The tool provides a number that indicates the number of searches a specific word or phrase has had. http://www.google.com/webhp?complete=1&hl=en

OUR APOLOGIES We wish to apologize for the delay in our e-newsletter. It seems like only yesterday we were celebrating our annual holiday toy drive and now we are already in the beginnings of summer.
We have been quite busy with some refocusing and upgrading of our services here at Dezins.
We have just completed our web server transfer to a new, more powerful and more capable Windows based server system. With this new system we will be able to offer even more cutting-edge web based features and services and will be going in more detail of these bells and whistles in upcoming issues of dezinSOURCE.
In addition to a new server, we now have a new internet techie on board. We recently hired Sam Razi to assist in the IT and networking services and he is truly a genius. We will be introducing Sam in the next issue also.
We are also looking into expanding our services to full marketing capabilities including strategic and target marketing through direct mail, radio, television and of course the ever growing capabilities of the internet.
So yes it has been busy, it has been challenging but most of all it has been so rewarding. Each of you remain our most important reason for doing what we do and each of you are truly appreciated. Thank you so much for your support.
HAVE YOU "ASKED O" This is where you ask questions of interest and we'll do the research and post the answers to your inquiry. There are lots of things about marketing, the internet and print media that can be challenging, so, ASK O. This issues question: What are search engine keywords? ASK O

COOL GAME The object of the game is to simply survive by moving the red block around without getting hit by the blue blocks or touching the black perimeter walls. It's been said that the US Air Force uses this for fighter pilots. They are expected to survive for at least 2 minutes. EMAIL us your top time and we'll post it in the next newsletter. http://tinyurl.com/56t9u

YOU KNOW YOU ARE LIVING IN 2006 when...
- You accidentally enter your password on the microwave.
- You haven't played solitaire with real cards in years.
- You have a list of 15 phone numbers to reach your family of 3.
- You e-mail the person who works at the desk next to you.
- Your reason for not staying in touch with friends and family is that they don't have email addresses.
- You pull up in your own driveway and use your cell phone to see if anyone is home to help you carry in the groceries.
- Every commercial on television has a web site at the bottom of the screen.
- Leaving the house without your cell phone, which you didn't have the first 20 or 30 (or 60) years! of your life, is now a cause for panic and you turn around to go and get it.
- You get up in the morning and go on line before getting your coffee.
- You start tilting your head sideways to smile. : )
- You're reading this and nodding and laughing.
- Even worse, you know exactly to whom you are going to forward this message.
- You are too busy to notice there was no # 9 on this list.
- You actually scrolled back up to check that there wasn't a #9 on this list. AND NOW U R LAUGHING at yourself.
